A 34-year-old man suspected of a gas station robbery found himself in custody following an arrest at the Horseshoe Casino in Shelbyville, Indiana. The individual, identified as M.C.S., a resident of Indianapolis, now faces charges of theft and robbery, as confirmed by the Fishers Police Department (FPD).
The incident traces back to Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024, when the FPD responded to a robbery report at the Circle K gas station on Allisonville Rd. The suspect allegedly entered the station at approximately 5:55 AM, threatening the attendant by claiming possession of a gun and demanding money from the register.
Complying with the robber’s demands, the gas station employee handed over an undisclosed sum of money. Despite the ordeal, the employee remained unharmed, promptly contacting 911 while providing a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Utilizing video evidence and a FLOCK/License Plate Reader (LPR) system, law enforcement tracked the suspect’s vehicle to the Horseshoe Casino in Shelbyville. A joint effort involving the Indiana Gaming Commission and Shelbyville Police Department led to the suspect’s arrest on-site, where authorities discovered money matching the stolen amount and clothing resembling that worn by the robber.
Subsequent to a search of the suspect’s vehicle and an interview, the 34-year-old admitted to the robbery. In Indiana, robbery is classified as a Level 5 felony, potentially carrying a sentence of up to six years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. Armed robbery, involving the use of a deadly weapon, can lead to a maximum of 16 years of imprisonment and the same monetary penalty.
Theft charges, classified as a Class A misdemeanor in Indiana, carry penalties dependent on factors like the stolen property’s value, previous convictions, and other mitigating circumstances.
