In the six months since his appointment, Budi Arie Setiadi has been responsible for blocking nearly one million forms of gambling in the country.Budi Arie Setiadi, the leader of Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), has successfully restricted access to over 800,000 forms of online gambling content, employing measures such as blocking IP addresses, websites, and payment restrictions.
Setiadi emphasized that this achievement equals the cumulative efforts made in blocking online gambling content over the past five years. Following the appointment of Setiadi after the exit of the previous Minister in May 2023, the ministry collaborated with various stakeholders, including the Financial Services Authority, telecommunication providers, internet service providers, and digital platforms, to eradicate online gambling.
The statistics reveal that Kominfo restricted access to various platforms and payment methods. Despite the gambling ban in Indonesia since 1974, authorities are addressing the increasing prevalence of online gambling, even though many sites actively accept registrations from Indonesians.
