Paddy Power, towards the latter part of 2023, revealed its impactful ‘Big 180’ campaign, aiming to support Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK) by pledging £1,000 for every 180 hit during the championship.
The initiative aimed to combat the debilitating effects of the disease and encouraged men to invest just 30 seconds to evaluate their risk of prostate cancer. This effort stemmed from alarming statistics indicating that 1 in 8 men might face a diagnosis of this illness at some point in their lives.
The World Darts Championship was a riveting event that not only unveiled a new champion but also showcased a rising star. The winning darts, propelled by Luke Humphries and Luke Littler in the final, collectively contributed £914,000 to the cause.
Surpassing the previous year’s record of £901,000, Paddy Power decided to round up the contribution to a generous £1 million, ensuring a substantial donation to Prostate Cancer UK.
As the newly crowned champion and world No.1, Humphries not only ascended to the apex of the darts world but also secured the inaugural Ballon d’Art trophy. This prestigious accolade was bestowed upon Humphries at Alexandra Palace for achieving an exceptional 73 maximums, the highest number of 180s, during the Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
Paddy Power’s debut sponsorship of the darts garnered keen attention at Gambling Insider, coinciding with the recent announcement of BetMGM as the lead sponsor of Premier League Darts.
